Biography

Cynthia Hill is a renowned filmmaker from Durham, North Carolina, recognized for her captivating and visually-stunning documentaries that delve into the intricacies of everyday life. Born in Pink Hill, a rural crossroads in eastern North Carolina, Cynthia has made a name for herself as the co-creator and director of the PBS documentary series SOMEWHERE SOUTH, which premiered in March 2020.

Additionally, Cynthia is also the director and creator of ROAD TO RACE DAY, an executive-produced series by Peter Berg that premiered on Sony's Crackle in July 2020 and debuted on Verizon's go90 in 2017. The series follows the journeys of Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR drivers Chase Elliott, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, and their race teams.

Cynthia's extensive documentary portfolio includes PRIVATE VIOLENCE, which debuted at Sundance, premiered on HBO, and earned her an Emmy nomination. Her other notable credits as producer and director include TOBACCO MONEY FEEDS MY FAMILY, THE GUESTWORKER, and FEBRUARY ONE.

As a co-founder of the Southern Documentary Fund, a nonprofit organization established to support place-based storytelling, Cynthia is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of documentary filmmakers. Currently, she is directing a crime documentary in development with HBO.

Outside of her professional endeavors, Cynthia is a devoted mother to her two amazing daughters, Sadie and Ruby.
