Biography

Cristina Costantini, an Emmy Award-winning director, is set to return to the Sundance Film Festival in 2025 with her latest feature documentary, Sally, which is based on the life of Sally Ride. This marks her third appearance at the festival, following her debut film Science Fair in 2018 and Mucho Mucho Amor in 2020.

Science Fair, which Cristina co-directed with Darren Foster, won the Festival Favorite Award at Sundance and was acquired by National Geographic Documentary Films. The film's success was global, capturing the hearts and minds of viewers at festivals around the world, and it went on to win an Emmy Award, spawn a spin-off series, and inspire future generations of scientists.

Mucho Mucho Amor, which Cristina co-directed with Kareem Tabsch, was purchased by Netflix in 2020 and received numerous accolades, including nominations from the News & Documentary Emmys, as well as being honored as Best Documentary of the Year by the Imagen Foundation Awards and the Latino Entertainment Journalist Association Film Awards.

Prior to her work in documentary filmmaking, Cristina was an award-winning investigative journalist, covering topics such as detention centers, immigration, and the opiate epidemic. Her work as a journalist earned her numerous awards from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, as well as a DuPont Award and several Emmy nominations.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Cristina is a graduate of Yale University and currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband Alfie, daughter Penny, and elderly pug dog Harriet. She is a partner at Muck Media, a Los Angeles-based production company renowned for its journalistic and character-driven storytelling, which has been nominated for 21 Emmys in 2024.

Muck Media's films often spotlight underdog narratives that resonate with powerful, universal insights, and Cristina's work is no exception. With her latest documentary, Sally, set to premiere at Sundance in 2025, audiences can expect another thought-provoking and inspiring film from this accomplished director.
