Francis Coyote Shivers, a multifaceted artist, was born in Toronto, Canada. During his teenage years, he produced the first single by the Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, with the b-side becoming the theme song for the popular TV show The Kids in the Hall in 1988.
Coyote went on to produce the band's next two albums before handing over the reins to renowned producer Steve Albini, who has worked with notable acts like Nirvana. As a guitarist, Coyote played with the instrumental rock band Sharkskin, releasing three EPs and a "Greatest Hits" CD compilation.
He later moved to Los Angeles, where he collaborated with acclaimed record producer Daniel Lanois, who has worked with U2 and Bob Dylan, among others. Lanois produced Coyote's single "Sugarhigh" for the Empire Records soundtrack in 1995.
Coyote then relocated to Amsterdam, where he purchased a boat and lived in the canals until fate brought him to New York City to play guitar for The Dave Rave Conspiracy. The band made history as the first non-Soviet group signed to the Soviet state-run record label Melodyia after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
After The Dave Rave Conspiracy disbanded, Coyote appeared in the film Johnny Mnemonic alongside Keanu Reeves, Ice-T, and Henry Rollins. He also starred in Empire Records with Renée Zellweger, Liv Tyler, and Ethan Embry, and made a cameo appearance in Smut in 1999.
Coyote returned to New York City and enlisted Billy Ficca, drummer for Richard Hell and The Neon Boys and a member of the influential New York band Television. Jack Pedler later took over on drums, and Coyote released his debut solo album, "Coyote Shivers," which received critical acclaim from a diverse range of publications, including Billboard Magazine, Screw Magazine, Sassy, and High Times.
Debbie Harry's bassist, Greta Brinkman, eventually replaced Dagon Spector on bass, and Coyote formed his most recent lineup featuring Chad Stewart, drummer for Faster Pussycat, and Casper on bass. Greta later played bass for Moby.
After opening for KISS on their reunion tour, Coyote began writing songs for his second album, releasing limited edition CD singles and the 5-song CD "1/2 a Rock & Roll Record." He spent most of his time between Hollywood and New York City.
Coyote recently finished starring in Down and Out with the Dolls, directed by Kurt Voss and also starring Lemmy, Phil Campbell, and Inger Lorre of the Nymphs. He has also just completed filming Girl in, directed by Luis Aira.
