The early 1970s marked the beginning of his career as a dubbed voice actor, with notable roles in films such as "They Call Me Mister Tibbs!" (1970) and "Dirty Harry" (1971). His distinctive deep and serious voice became synonymous with the most recognizable voice in Spain during the 1970s and 1980s, with standout performances in titles like the original three Star Wars movies, where he voiced the iconic character of Darth Vader. Additionally, he lent his voice to James Bond films starring Roger Moore.
In the mid-1980s, Romero shifted his focus to television hosting, with his first notable role being the hosting of the popular Spanish contest-show "El tiempo es oro" (1987),which proved to be a significant success for him. Concurrently, he continued his work as a voice actor, lending his voice to notable films like "Terminator" and Clint Eastwood movies, solidifying his status as one of the most familiar faces in Spain.
