Colin Cairnes is half of the renowned Cairnes Brothers writing/directing duo, known for their exceptional work in the film and television industry.
Their debut feature, 100 Bloody Acres, starring Damon Herriman and Angus Sampson, was released in 2013 and received widespread critical acclaim, with Matt Zoller-Seitz from rogerebert.com praising it as "the best low budget horror-comedy since Shaun of the Dead". The film won the prestigious Midnight X-treme Award at the Sitges Film Festival and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Sampson) at the 2013 AACTAs, Australia's equivalent of the Academy Awards.
The Cairnes Brothers' sophomore effort, Scare Campaign, was released in 2016 and offered a fresh and frightening take on the "slasher" genre, earning four awards, including Best Film and Best Director, at the esteemed Monsterfest, Australia's premier horror movie festival.
In 2019, the Cairnes Brothers served as executive producers on the horror anthology film Dark Place, written and directed by a talented group of young Indigenous filmmakers.
Colin Cairnes has also made a significant impact in the television industry, directing the Australian Writers Guild award-winning comedy series Fancy Boy for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 2016. He subsequently won the Best Director (Comedy Series) award at the Australian Directors Guild Awards in 2019 for his work on the popular TV series True Story with Hamish & Andy.
Furthermore, Colin has produced and directed several highly acclaimed Singaporean sitcoms, including the Asian TV Award-winning shows Phua Chu Kang PTE. LTD. and Under One Roof.
