Biography

Chris Was born in Clydebank, just outside of Glasgow in Scotland. He began his acting career at the age of thirty, after previously establishing and running a homeless shelter and housing support service in the house where he grew up.

A graduate of the Royal Welsh College (2009),Chris now resides in North London. His interest in drama was sparked while running the homeless shelter, where he found solace in amateur musical companies, performing on stage and behind the scenes.

Before pursuing a full-time acting career, Chris honed his skills with semi-pro plays at the Ramshorn Theatre and Strathclyde Theatre Group, and with the Glasgow Long-form improvisation troupe "Q-Fusion". He also gained screen experience by working behind the scenes with Scottish Opera and Ballet at the Theatre Royal and Kings Theatre.

Chris' first job in theatre was as an ASM Understudy in Hobson's Choice, a touring production that required him to build sets at each venue and cover the main cast. This experience led him to apply to the Royal Welsh College, where he was accepted with a Screen Academy Wales Scholarship and a full bursary from the Scottish Government.

Before graduating, Chris secured his first screen credit in the BBC soap River City, thanks to a chance encounter with Executive Producer Sandra MacIver and Director Dan Wilson. Following graduation, he worked on the Welsh medical drama Crash and landed a semi-regular role on the BBC soap Doctors, appearing in twenty-two episodes.

Chris' impressive screen CV boasts credits from dramas such as Game of Thrones, Call the Midwife, Silent Witness, Homefront, and Our World War, as well as features like Everest and Allies. Since leaving drama school, he has averaged a play a year, exclusively performing in new writing for prominent theatres like The Royal Court, The Globe, and The National Theatre of Scotland.
