Camilo Wong Moreno, professionally known as Chino, was born on June 20, 1973, in Sacramento, California, to a Mexican father and a Chinese mother. His nickname, Chino, is a Spanish term meaning "Chinese".
Chino spent his formative years in the Oak Park area of Sacramento, a low-income, racially diverse neighborhood, which undoubtedly had a significant impact on his upbringing and worldview.
As a teenager, Chino discovered his passion for skateboarding and developed a strong affinity for bands like Depeche Mode and the Cure. However, his academic journey took an unexpected turn when he was expelled from C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento before graduating.
In 1988, at the tender age of 16, Chino, along with some close friends, co-founded the renowned rock band Deftones. Over the years, the band has released eight major-label albums, cementing their status as a prominent force in the music industry.
In addition to his work with Deftones, Chino is also a member of several side projects, including Palms, Team Sleep, and Crosses. His personal life is marked by two marriages, first to Celeste Schroeder, with whom he shares two children, Kristian and Jakobi, and later to Risa Mora-Moreno, with whom he has a child named Lola.
