Charles Kissinger's military service during World War II set the stage for his future endeavors. Upon his return, he became a prominent figure in Louisville's theatre scene, captivating audiences with his performances in Shakespeare in the Park productions and his collaborations with the esteemed Actors Theatre.
Beyond his work on stage, Charles was a multi-talented individual, excelling as a writer, TV commercial actor, and voice-over artist for various radio spots. However, it was his iconic role as The Fearmonger on the popular horror double feature television program Fright Night that cemented his place in the hearts of Louisville's residents.
For four years, from 1971 to 1975, Charles's eerie presence on Saturday evenings broadcast on WDRB-41, a Louisville-based network, became a staple of the community. His versatility also led him to take on lead roles in several low-budget horror films directed by William Girdler, including Asylum of Satan and Three on a Meathook, both released in 1972.
Throughout the 1980s, Charles continued to work regularly in both theatre and advertising. His passing at the age of 66, due to heart failure, occurred on January 23, 1991, at the St. Anthony Medical Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
