Carlin Glynn Masterson passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at the age of 83. Her daughter, Mary Stuart Masterson, shared a heartfelt notice of her passing, reminiscing about her mother's life and legacy. Mary Stuart described Carlin as a strong, smart, silly, intuitive, kind, generous, passionate, and deep listener, who was devoted to her family and the many students and collaborators she considered her chosen family.

Mary Stuart also shared a poignant quote from Seamus Heaney's poem, Clearances, to describe the fragility and strength of life. She posted a photo of her mother's 80th birthday party, taken before the onset of dementia and cancer, which showed Carlin's enduring sense of joy and wonder. The post also featured a photo of Carlin with her son, Seppi Sigh, who was described as a "silly guy."
