Biography

Carl McCoy was born in Lambeth, London, and grew up in nearby Brixton, a culturally rich and diverse area that would likely have a profound impact on his artistic development.

As a co-founder of the iconic Gothic Rock band Fields of the Nephilim, Carl McCoy played a pivotal role in shaping the band's sound and aesthetic from 1984 to 1991. During this time, he served as lead singer, lyric writer, co-composer, and artist, leaving an indelible mark on the band's discography.

In 1992, McCoy departed Fields of the Nephilim to form a new band called The Nefilim, while the remaining members of the band went on to become Rubicon. The Nefilim released one album and single in 1996 before creative differences and conflicts with their record label, Beggars Banquet, led to the band's demise.

Meanwhile, Rubicon released two albums and several singles, while McCoy briefly reunited with the original lineup of Fields of the Nephilim from 1997 to 1998, only to be driven apart once again by musical differences.

From 2003 to the present, Carl McCoy has been actively involved with Fields of the Nephilim, recording and performing with a new lineup of musicians. During this time, the band has released a wealth of material, including EPs, albums, a live album, a best-of compilation, singles, and a collection of their promotional videos.

In addition to his work with Fields of the Nephilim, Carl McCoy is also a co-founder of Sheerfaith, a creative services company that provides artwork, graphic design, animation, sound production, and related services. Sheerfaith has worked on numerous projects, including album artwork, merchandise, and the official Fields of the Nephilim website.

McCoy has also made appearances in several films, including the 1990 horror movie "Hardware," which was written and directed by his friend Richard Stanley. Stanley also directed the first two Fields of the Nephilim promotional videos and assisted with the band's distinctive Western-inspired aesthetic.

In recent years, McCoy has continued to work with Stanley, who has recorded numerous Fields of the Nephilim concerts for a proposed DVD entitled "Ceremonies."

In addition to his work in music and film, Carl McCoy has also explored his interest in the occult, founding his own occult order known as the Order of the 24th Moment.

In his personal life, McCoy is in a long-term relationship with his partner Lynn and is the father of two daughters, Scarlett and Eden. He currently resides in England.
