Biography

Carl August Hugo Froelich, a renowned German film pioneer, excelled in multiple creative capacities, including film direction, screenwriting, and photography. Initially, Froelich worked as a cameraman for Oskar Messter's weekly newsreels, where he had the opportunity to capture significant events, including the aftermath of a devastating train accident on the Berlin elevated railway on September 28, 1908, which was one of the most catastrophic transport disasters of its time.

In 1913, Froelich made his directorial debut with the film "Richard Wagner," marking the beginning of a prolific career in filmmaking. Over the course of nearly four decades, from 1913 to 1951, Froelich went on to direct an impressive 77 feature films, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the German film industry.
