Born and raised in the vibrant city of Los Angeles, Campion Murphy's journey in the entertainment industry spanned several years. He then made a seamless transition into the world of independent filmmaking, crafting and directing the critically acclaimed short film Citation of Merit in 1999. This remarkable achievement was inspired by his late father's courageous experiences during World War II, and Citation went on to be accepted into an impressive six film festivals.
Murphy's creative endeavors did not stop there. He went on to develop several projects, including a half-hour pilot for ABC studios titled "Raising Shane", which was based on his own life experiences. In his early twenties, Murphy became the legal guardian of his 13-year-old nephew, a role that had a profound impact on his life. This period of his life also marked the beginning of his journey as a writer, as he started compiling a diverse range of scripted works, including action-thrillers, dark comedies, and edgy family dramas.
In 2011, Murphy directed his indie-thriller Escapee, starring Dominic Purcell, which tells the gripping story of a high-risk patient who escapes from a mental hospital and wreaks havoc on a small town. This film showcased Murphy's versatility as a director and his ability to craft compelling narratives.
Most recently, Murphy wrote and directed the thought-provoking short film The Day I Finally Decided to Kill Myself, a story that was initially written in memory of his brother who tragically took his own life in the late 1980s. After another brother's passing in 2012, Murphy decided to bring this powerful story to life on the big screen. He has also been working on a hybrid comedy, "Barry Avenue", which is loosely based on his own experiences as a young single man living in a Los Angeles bungalow.
Today, Murphy maintains residences in both Los Angeles and Louisiana, and continues to develop projects for both film and television. His dedication to his craft and his ability to draw from his own life experiences have resulted in a diverse range of creative works that showcase his talent and versatility as a writer and director.
