Brian Taggert was born on January 29, 1938, in California, to a family of Scottish descent. Following his parents' divorce when he was a child, Taggert was raised by his grandparents in LA's Hancock Park until he was approximately ten years old. During this period, he also served as an alter boy in the Episcopal Church.
After completing high school, Taggert enlisted in the military and was stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he embarked on a brief acting career, spending three years in Scotland. While in Scotland, Taggert pursued his passion for the arts, studying dramatic art at the Royal Scottish Academy and literature at the University of Edinburgh.
However, Taggert eventually decided to shift his focus from acting to writing. After spending six years attempting to break into the entertainment industry, he began his writing career in 1973 by penning teleplays for episodic television. Taggert went on to write screenplays for several theatrical films and made-for-TV movies.
In addition to his work as a screenwriter, Taggert also taught a script-writing course at UCLA's film school, titled "Things That Go Bump in the Night: Writing the Thriller/Horror/Sci-Fi Picture." Moreover, he wrote scripts on spec in his later years.
Tragically, Brian Taggert passed away on June 1, 2019, at the age of 81, due to a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles, California.
