Brett Harvey is an internationally acclaimed director and writer, hailing from Vancouver, Canada. His feature documentary directorial debut, 'The Union: The Business Behind Getting High', garnered widespread recognition, including the National Film Board sponsored award for 'Best Canadian Documentary' at the Edmonton International Film Festival. This milestone marked the beginning of a series of accolades, as the film went on to win numerous 'Best Documentary' awards and was selected to 33 international film festivals across North America.
Subsequently, Brett directed and wrote the feature documentary 'The Culture High', which Newsweek described as "showing the insanity of the drug war". The documentary secured worldwide distribution in over 70 countries and won the 'Best Documentary Feature' award at the 2015 Ampia Awards. Building on his success, Brett went on to direct and write the highly acclaimed feature documentary 'Ice Guardians', which was featured in Newsweek's "Favorite Documentaries of 2016" and Sports Illustrated's "Best of Film" in 2016.
The film received four 'Rosie Awards' nominations in 2017 and two 'Leo Awards' nominations, including 'Best Feature Documentary' and 'Best Director'. Brett's latest documentary, 'Inmate #1: The Rise of Danny Trejo', won the 'Audience Choice Award' for 'Best Canadian Documentary' and 'Best Overall Film' at the Calgary International Film Festival, while picking up five Leo Awards, including 'Best Feature Documentary' and 'Best Director'. The film subsequently signed a major studio deal with Universal Pictures and was featured in Rolling Stone.
Brett's follow-up film, 'Breaking Olympia: The Phil Heath Story', a co-production with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, was nominated for five Leo Awards, including 'Best Feature Documentary' and 'Best Director', four Rosie Awards, and 'Best Documentary' at the National Film Awards in the UK. Currently, Brett is directing and writing a highly anticipated feature documentary on world-renowned comedian Dane Cook, chronicling his journey of having to put his only brother in prison.
