Biyouna, a renowned actress and belly dancer, was born in Belcourt, Algeria in 1954, during the war of liberation against France. Her family was deeply rooted in the entertainment industry, with her sister, Leila Djazaria, being a famous singer, and her mother selling tickets at the prestigious Dounyazad theater. As a young girl, Biyouna would often watch Egyptian singers and actresses perform at the cinema, which inspired her to pursue a career in the arts.
At the age of 14, Biyouna began belly dancing at the most famous cabarets in Algiers, where she quickly gained recognition for her talents. Her big break came in 1973, when director Mustapha Badie discovered her at an Algerian television studio. He was looking for an actress to play an important role in a television series based on the trilogy by Algerian writer Mohamed Dib, and Biyouna impressed him with her audition, landing the part.
Throughout her career, Biyouna has worked primarily in Algerian television, performing in one-woman shows across the country, even during the height of terrorism. She has never left her native country until director Nadir Mokneche approached her for the role of Meriem in "Le Harem De Madame Osmane" in 1999, which was filmed in Morocco but set in Algeria during the terrorism.
Biyouna has become a star in her home country, residing in the popular neighborhood of Bab el Oued, Algiers. She continues to work in both France and Algeria, making a name for herself in both television and cinema. Despite the challenges she has faced, Biyouna remains a beloved figure in Algerian entertainment, known for her talents, beauty, and dedication to her craft.
