Birgitta Bernhard is a talented Viennese actress who has had a diverse and accomplished career in film, television, and theater. Born and raised in Vienna, she studied Drama at the University of Vienna and trained in Dance and Musical Theatre. Her early work includes performing and touring with the production of 'Godspell' and 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' in the late 80s.
In the 1990s, she worked with her dear friend Jean Yves Ginoux and his company for several dance theatre productions, including 'Spirales des Pleurs' and 'La Ronce n'est pas le prie'. She also trained at the 'Actor's Studio' in Vienna and was awarded a grant by the Austrian Ministry of Culture, which allowed her to move to London and train in Method Acting at 'Lee Strasberg's Theatre Institute' for three years.
After joining a professional Meisner Technique group with the late Jean Fennell, she began to make a name for herself in London's fringe/off West End circuit. Some of her notable roles include Miriam in the award-winning short film 'The Glove', Mrs. Anwar in the highly acclaimed '24 Hours in London', and Barbara in the self-penned 'Wisteria Cottage'.
Birgitta has also appeared in several feature films, including 'The Wedding Video', 'Made in Dagenham', and 'Crime and Punishment'. Her television credits include the role of the German Landlady in the four-part BBC TV-drama-series of 'Crime and Punishment' and the highly manipulative therapist Maxine in the award-winning feature film 'Do I love you?'.
In 2004, Birgitta co-founded the production company 'Charismatic Productions Ltd' with actor Carmine Canuso, and in 2016, she became a co-director along with Peter Westcott and Kate Isitt. The company has produced several rehearsed readings, including 'Speaking in Tongues', 'Empties', and 'Scars'.
Birgitta is also a passionate writer and is currently updating her TV comedy-drama 'Sequin Deep', which follows a top London socialite and the characters she encounters on the London fashion scene during recession, post-Brexit, and pre-Covid-19. The script was selected by four production companies, and the tight-knit ensemble of six actors is looking forward to working together again.
In addition to her acting and writing work, Birgitta is fluent in English, French, and German and has trained with Julia Wilson-Dickson and Penny Dyer on her RP and Standard American accents. She is represented by ESRL Agency and is grateful for the respect, kindness, and care they offer.
