Born on November 15, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, she is the daughter of musicians Priscilla Ruth and Eugene Constantino "Gene" D'Angelo. Her maternal grandfather, Howard Dwight Smith, was the architect who designed the Ohio Stadium at Ohio State University.
Initially drawn to art, Beverly worked as an animator/cartoonist at Hanna-Barbera Productions before pursuing a rock singing career in Canada. She also worked as a session vocalist and sang at various venues, including coffeehouses and topless bars. At one point, she was invited to join rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins' band.
Beverly's acting career began when she left the Hawkins band and joined the Charlottetown Festival repertory company, touring Canada as Ophelia in the rock musical "Kronborg: 1582".
