Bernard B. Brown

Bernard B. Brown, a trailblazing figure in the realm of sound engineering and music composition, embarked on his illustrious career at the tender age of sixteen as a first violinist in the pit orchestra at Clune's Auditorium in Los Angeles. His early endeavors included crafting the accompanying score for the groundbreaking premiere run of D.W. Griffith's The Birth of a Nation, a monumental film released in 1915. As his career gained momentum, Brown joined the esteemed animation company founded by Rudolf Ising and Hugh Harman, eventually becoming a resident composer at Warner Brothers. He earned widespread recognition for his work on the iconic 'Buddy' and 'Bosko' cartoons, both masterpieces created by Ising-Harman. Brown's remarkable contributions to the film industry were honored with an Academy Award for When Tomorrow Comes, a cinematic masterpiece released in 1939, and a Technical Achievement Award in 1945. Following a distinguished career spanning over four decades, Brown retired in 1958 and passed away in February 1981, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire and influence generations of musicians and filmmakers.
