Benny Urquidez, also known as the Jet, was born into a family that was deeply rooted in athletics. His mother was a professional wrestler, and his father was a professional boxer. In fact, all of his siblings held black belts in various martial arts. Urquidez himself has earned black belts in an impressive nine different martial arts disciplines, and has also trained in other styles.
The Jet's journey in full-contact karate began in 1974, and it was a remarkable one. He achieved a record of over 200 wins and zero losses, with an astonishing 63 title defenses and 57 knockouts. Urquidez is the only fighter to have successfully retained six world titles in five different weight divisions for a staggering 24 consecutive years.
After retiring from competition, Urquidez returned to the ring in 1993 at the age of 42, defeating defending champion Yoshihisa Tagami, who was 25 years his junior, for the world light middleweight championship.
Today, Urquidez devotes his time to his acting and movie career, specializing in training actors for fight scenes. He is also a renowned martial arts instructor, having written four instructional books and released eight instructional videos. Urquidez has even developed his own unique martial art, called Ukidokan, which translates to "way of life." His martial arts center, the Jet Center, is located in North Hollywood, California.
