Biography

Benjamin Heisenberg was born in the year 1974, in the German city of Tübingen. His early years were spent in a small village located near the city of Würzburg, where his father, a renowned professor of neurobiology, held a position at the local university. After completing his secondary education in 1993, Heisenberg pursued higher education at the prestigious Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1995, he secured an assistantship under the esteemed Professor Walther Grasskamp, who taught the history of art at the academy. Heisenberg's academic journey culminated in 1998, when he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, taking home the coveted "Debütantenpreis" for being one of the top three students of the year. Prior to focusing on filmmaking, Heisenberg experimented with art videos and, in 1996, wrote, directed, and shot his debut narrative short film, "Terremoto". This initial foray into film left a lasting impression on him, ultimately leading him to dedicate himself to the craft. From 1997 to 2005, Heisenberg honed his skills in film directing at the renowned Munich Film School. Since then, he has written and directed numerous feature films that have garnered a plethora of prestigious international film awards.
