One of his most notable roles was that of Jawaharlal Nehru in the 1993 film Sardar, a testament to his versatility as a performer. Additionally, he has also appeared in the movie "Hum Dum", further solidifying his status as a talented actor.

In a remarkable career move, Benjamin Gilani co-founded 'Motley Productions', a renowned theatre company based in Mumbai, in 1977, alongside the esteemed Tom Alter and Naseeruddin Shah. This innovative endeavour marked the beginning of a new era in Indian theatre, with Waiting For Godot being their inaugural play, which premiered on July 29, 1979, at the iconic Prithvi Theatre.
