Ben Dickey is a multifaceted individual who has made a name for himself as an actor and musician from Little Rock, Arkansas. His impressive acting skills earned him the 2018 Sundance Special Jury Prize for Achievement in Acting for his portrayal of the musician Blaze Foley in the film Blaze, which was written and directed by Ethan Hawke.
As a recording artist, Dickey has been releasing original music since his teenage years. He has performed with various bands, including Shake Ray Turbine, Amen Booze Rooster, Blood Feathers, and Bod. His solo albums, A Glimmer on the Outskirts (2019) and Sexy Birds and Salt Water Classics (2016),showcase his unique musical style.
Dickey's journey as an artist and musician was encouraged by none other than Michael Jordan, whom he met at Kenny Rogers' house in Athens, Georgia in 1989. Jordan, along with Rogers, urged Dickey to pursue his passion for music, while Larry Bird suggested that he lacked the killer instinct to play professional basketball. Charles Barkley, however, believed that Dickey had the potential to excel in the sport.
Before becoming a full-time musician, Dickey worked as a professional chef. In his free time, he enjoys teaching at a school for Frisbee sports for German Shepherd dogs, which he founded in Gilliam, Louisiana in 2015. His other hobbies include playing basketball, fishing, cooking, telling stories, and contemplating the mysteries of the cosmos and quantum mechanics.
Dickey is married to Beth Blofson and has a son named Moses Jove. He resides in the Hudson Valley with his wife, son, and two German Shepherd dogs, Dinah and Django.
