Barry Rebo's entrepreneurial endeavors have led to the establishment of four New York-based companies over the course of several decades, each revolutionizing the television and film industries in its own unique way. The common thread running through these companies is their innovative approach to production, distribution, and exhibition, as well as their impact on the underlying business models of these activities.
In 1975, Rebo Associates pioneered the use of portal video systems, challenging the dominance of 16mm film in television news and documentary film production. This bold move paved the way for future innovations in the industry.
Fast forward to 1986, when REBO HD Studio introduced high definition television (HDTV) production to the United States and the international filmmaking community. This breakthrough not only elevated the quality of television programming but also set a new standard for the industry.
In the year 2000, Emerging Cinemas & Emerging Pictures took the industry by storm by creating the first national digital cinema network for Specialty Film & Event Cinema exhibitors and distributors. This innovative platform enabled the widespread distribution of unique and niche films, further diversifying the film industry.
In 2015, Barry Rebo co-founded and became the Managing Director of Direct Cinema North America (DCNA),a partnership with the Ymagis Group, a European digital cinema organization. This partnership further solidified Rebo's position as a trailblazer in the industry.
Most recently, in 2019, Bagatelle Releasing was founded to support Rebo's legacy film and television projects, ensuring that his contributions to the industry will continue to be celebrated and remembered for years to come.
