Asmara Abigail Sumiskum is a renowned Indonesian actress, dancer, and model who began her career as a teenage model, participating in a model selection event organized by Go Girl! and NYLON.
Prior to her feature-length film debut in Setan Jawa in 2016, a silent black-and-white film with classical orchestra and musical accompaniment directed by Garin Nugroho, Asmara was a theater dancer and had a background in tango, flamenco, and pole dance.
Her first film, Setan Jawa, marked the beginning of her career in the film industry and was showcased as the opening of the Asia Pacific Triennial of Performing Arts in Melbourne, Australia on February 24, 2017.
Asmara's performance in Setan Jawa was inspired by her background in contemporary dances such as tango, flamenco, and pole dance, which she combined with traditional Javanese dance movements to bring Asih's character to life.
Following her debut, Asmara appeared in the TV series Switch (2017) and gained recognition after playing Darminah in the film Satan's Slaves (2017) directed by Joko Anwar, a remake of the 1982 horror classic Satan's Slave (1980).
In 2019, Asmara starred in several films, including Cult (2019),Impetigore (2019),Ghost Writer (2019),and Homecoming (2019),showcasing her versatility in different genres.
She also appeared in Gundala (2019),a superhero film directed by Joko Anwar, and Mangkujiwo (2020),a horror film directed by Azhar Kinoi Lubis.
In 2021, Asmara co-starred in the drama film Yuni (2021),which received acclaim at festivals around the world, and starred in the fantasy thriller A World Without (2021).
She then appeared in the Malayalam film Stone Turtle (2022) by Ming Jin Woo and the sequel to Satan's Slaves (2017),Satan's Slaves 2: Communion (2022),again directed by Joko Anwar.
Asmara was educated at the Haute Future Fashion Academy in Italy, specializing in Luxury Goods Marketing and Image.
