Ashok Selvan is a renowned Indian actor who has made a significant impact in the Tamil film industry. Born and raised in Chennai, Selvan attended Santhome Higher Secondary School before pursuing a degree in Visual Communication from Loyola College, Chennai.
During his time at college, Selvan's short film, Green, won the Best Film award at the 2012 International Tamil Thoth Conference in Singapore. This early success paved the way for his entry into the film industry, and he made his acting debut in the minor role of young Billa in the Tamil film Billa II (2012).
Before becoming a full-fledged actor, Selvan worked as an assistant director under S.J. Suryah and also appeared in a few commercials. His breakthrough role came when he was cast as Kesavan, an unemployed graduate, in the black comedy Soodhu Kavvum (2013),which received rave reviews and was a commercial success.
Selvan's subsequent films include the psychological thriller Pizza II: Villa (2013),the murder mystery Thegidi (2014),and the psychological drama Sometimes (2016),which was released on Netflix and received critical acclaim. The film was the only Indian film to reach the final round at the 74th Golden Globe Awards and won several awards at various film festivals.
In addition to his film work, Selvan has also appeared in web series such as Time Enna Boss (2020) on Amazon Prime and Edhiri: Karuna (2021) on Netflix. He has also acted in TV shows like Neeya Naana (2006),the second season of Bigg Boss Tamil (2017),and Spot Light (2019).
Selvan's latest ventures include the romantic drama Kootathil Oruthan (2017),the blockbuster hit Oh My Kadavule (2020),and his debut in Telugu cinema with Ninnila Ninnila (2021). He has also made his debut in Malayalam cinema with Priyadarshan's Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021) and appeared in the lead role in the black comedy thriller Manmadha Leelai (2022).
In addition to his acting career, Selvan has also ventured into music with his appearance in Pranav Giridharan's music video Maayam Seidhai Poove (2022).
