Merritt was born in the vibrant city of Dallas, Texas, and spent her formative years in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she developed a strong foundation for her future career in the entertainment industry.
With a career spanning over two decades, Merritt has made a significant impact in the world of film, dance, and music. Her professional acting career began at the tender age of ten, when she started working regionally in TV and film productions.
Throughout her career, Merritt has been committed to showcasing and amplifying Native, Indigenous, and Black narratives and voices. Her work has been featured in a variety of platforms, including the Sundance Film Festival, popular award-winning independent features centered on the African diaspora, and network TV.
One of Merritt's most notable roles is her leading part in the Netflix film "Full Out 2: You Got This", where she played the role of AJ Jackson, a 2x National Champion and member of the 2016 Oklahoma University gymnastics team.
Merritt has also appeared in the 2020 Gloria Steinem biopic "The Glorias", directed by Julie Taymor, where she performed a dramatic monologue and shared a scene with Alicia Vikander.
In addition to her film work, Merritt has also made appearances on TV shows such as FOX's "Deputy", AMC's "The Son", and USA's "Queen of the South". Merritt's hobbies and specialties include multi-style dance, music (playing the violin and singing),training in Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, fishing, hiking, figure-skating, studying languages and psychology, playing tennis, surfing, and always being ready to learn or experience a new adventure in life.
