Spanish actor, reportedly born in Puerto Rico, relocated to Mexico in 1946, becoming a prominent leading man alongside renowned actresses such as María Félix, María Antonieta Pons, and Gloria Marín.
Born into a family of Spanish actors, his father being the well-known Juan Calvo, Calvo began his acting career on stage at the tender age of five. He made his Spanish film debut in 1934 and, in late 1945, was hired by Mexico producer Gregorio Walerstein to star alongside María Félix in La mujer de todos (1946).
During the 1960s, Calvo returned to the Spanish film industry but later returned to Mexico in the 1970s, where he became a regular fixture on television and the stage, making occasional film appearances.
In the latter years of his life, Calvo led a reclusive existence, residing in a Mexico City hotel and dedicating his time to writing and painting. His health declined due to emphysema and kidney issues, ultimately succumbing to heart failure in July 1996.
