Biography

Arch Johnson, a renowned stage actor and prolific television character actor, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in the year 1922. He began his illustrious career in the world of theatre, where he found his true passion. His impressive resume boasts a plethora of notable performances, including the original production of the iconic musical "West Side Story" on Broadway, as well as the revival of the show in the 1980s. Notably, he was the only actor from the original stage version to return for the revival, and he even toured Europe with the show, sharing his talents with audiences across the continent.

Johnson's impressive list of credits also includes the original production of the Broadway play "Other People's Money," where he originated the role of Jorge, which was later portrayed by Gregory Peck in the film adaptation. Throughout his career, he oscillated between television and theatre, with a first love for the latter, where he began and ultimately returned to before retiring in the late 1990s.

Sadly, Arch Johnson's life was cut short when he passed away in October 1997 due to cancer. He left behind a lasting legacy, as he was survived by five children, Jennifer, Jessica, Joseph, Archie Jr., and LouAnn, as well as seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Dominic, Brian, Bradley, Sharon, Nancy, and Christi.
