Anthony Schatteman, born in 1989, is a multidisciplinary artist who has made a significant impact in the world of film and television. After completing his education at the KASK School of Arts in Ghent and the University of Antwerp, where he earned a master's degree in Film Studies and Visual Culture, Schatteman began to focus on storytelling and character development.
His work is characterized by its exploration of the complexities of human relationships, particularly among young people, and the struggles they face in navigating their emotions and desires. Schatteman's use of stylized visuals and minimal dialogue creates a unique atmosphere that draws the viewer in and invites them to reflect on their own experiences.
Schatteman's career in filmmaking began with the release of his first short film, Kiss me Softly, which won numerous awards at international film festivals. This was followed by three more short films: Follow me, Petit Ami, and Hello, Stranger. In 2020, he directed the series Alive for Vrt/Eén, starring Joke Emmers and Michäel Pas, in a production of Polar Bear.
In 2021, Schatteman released the youth series Panna, which aired on Goplay.be for SBS Belgium and was produced by Sputnik Media. The series follows four young girls who pursue their dreams of becoming professional football players in the streets of Antwerp. Later that year, he released his latest short film, l'Homme Inconnu, which premiered at Film Fest Ghent in Belgium and was shot on s16mm in Cavalaire-Sur-Mer.
Schatteman's work has also included the series 2de Zit for the Belgian streaming platform Streamz and the Irish series Northern Lights for Lionsgate. He is currently in post-production for his debut feature film, Young Hearts, which is set to be released in early 2024.
