Anthony Fabian is an acclaimed director of feature films, documentaries, commercials, and shorts. Born in San Francisco, California, he spent his childhood in Mexico City, Paris, and London before graduating from UCLA's Film & Television School in 1986. He then settled in London, where he is based.
Fabian's latest feature film, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, is based on the beloved Paul Gallico novella and stars an ensemble cast, including Lesley Manville, Isabelle Huppert, Jason Isaacs, Lambert Wilson, Rose Williams, Lucas Bravo, Alba Baptista, Christian McKay, and Anna Chancellor. The film is set for a worldwide release in early 2022 through Focus Features.
In 2020, Fabian released his feature documentary, Good Hope, which explores the current social and political landscape of South Africa through the eyes of the post-apartheid generation.
Fabian's first feature film, Skin, was shot in and around Johannesburg from September to November 2007 and co-produced with Margaret Matheson and Genevieve Hofmeyr. The film stars Sophie Okonedo, Sam Neill, Alice Krige, Tony Kgoroge, and Ella Ramangwane. Skin was a People's Choice Award Finalist at the Toronto Film Festival and won numerous international awards, including the Santa Barbara Film Festival, Los Angeles Pan African Film Festival, AFI Dallas Film Festival, Palm Beach Film Festival, and the United Nations Time For Peace Award.
His second feature film, Louder Than Words, was shot in Connecticut in 2012 and is based on true events. The film stars David Duchovny, Hope Davis, and Timothy Hutton and tells the poignant story of John and Brenda Fareri, grieving parents who were inspired by the unexpected death of their young daughter to build a world-class children's hospital. The film premiered at the Hamptons Film Festival in October 2013 and was released in 2014.
Fabian has also directed promotional films for the British Tourist Board, featuring Dev Patel, Judi Dench, Twiggy, Rupert Everett, Luke Evans, Colin Montgomerie, Boris Becker, Lennox Lewis, Jamie Oliver, and Matt Smith. He is also the producer/director of an eight-part interview series, British Legends of Stage and Screen, featuring Derek Jacobi, Claire Bloom, Michael Gambon, Diana Rigg, Michael York, Glenda Jackson, Christopher Lee, and Ian McKellen, which was broadcast on Sky Arts HD.
Anthony Fabian has also directed several short films, including Bach & Variations, Candy, Jean, and Prick. His documentary, Township Opera, features emerging talent from South Africa and was shortlisted for a One World Media Award. His other documentaries include Harmony in Hanoi, While the Music Lasts, and Embracing the Tiger.
Throughout his career, Fabian has worked as a Music Supervisor on several feature films, including Restoration, Goldeneye, Schubert, and Hilary and Jackie. His filmography includes profiles of performers Luciano Pavarotti, Cecilia Bartoli, Joshua Bell, Angela Gheorghiu, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Renée Fleming, Christophe Rousset, Olli Mustonen, Richard Egarr, and composer John Tavener.
