Anissa Matlock's journey began in Augusta, Georgia, where she was born as the eldest of three siblings in a military family. This nomadic upbringing, marked by frequent relocations throughout her childhood, instilled in her a remarkable adaptability, a trait that would serve her well in both her personal and professional life.
Growing up, Anissa's creative inclinations took center stage. She developed a passion for writing and illustrating short stories, and her love for the performing arts was evident in her backyard plays and community theatre performances as a teenager. Her dedication to her craft was evident, even then, as she began to entertain friends and family with her talents.
Matlock's academic pursuits were marked by a sense of ambition. She dual-enrolled in her senior year, opting to finish high school early, and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre from Atlanta, Georgia, in 2012.
Anissa's professional journey began with a small but significant role in season 5 of AMC's hit series 'The Walking Dead' in 2015. This marked the beginning of a string of television appearances that would follow, including recurring roles in 'The Resident' (2018 & 2021),'The Gifted' (2018-2019) on FOX, and a guest starring role in 'Reprisal' on HULU (2019). Most recently, she appeared as a recurring guest star in AMAZON's series 'The Power,' alongside the talented Auli'i Cravalho.
Matlock's work on the big screen has also garnered attention. Her supporting role in the award-winning feature film 'Beast Beast,' directed by Danny Madden, was hailed as a "standout" by Variety and IndieWire, earning her a spot in the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Additionally, she appeared alongside Gerard Butler in the 2020 disaster film 'Greenland' and challenged Pierce Brosnan in the 2023 action thrill-ride 'Fast Charlie.'
