Andrew Baird is a graduate of The National Film School of Ireland, where he majored in both Art Direction/Graphic Design and Film Direction, and was influenced by his brothers, Ridley and Tony Scott.
At the age of 24, Baird set up the production company Asylum with his brother John, and spent several years creating numerous commercials, short films, and music videos, including the special short film commission "Up the Country" for The Irish Film Board and the official selection "The Kiss of Life" at the Clermont Ferrand Film Festival in France.
After a successful run with Asylum, Baird moved to Eastern Europe, where he continued to direct international commercials and music videos, and developed a feature-length film project. Once the project was ready, he moved to Los Angeles in 2006.
In LA, Baird continued to direct and design hundreds of high-end commercials and music videos for various clients, including BMW, Ke$ha, Ash, Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, Toyota, Flo Ride, David Guetta, Versace, Bono, Cold War Kids, X Japan, and Levi's.
Baird gained significant attention for writing and directing the long-form music film "Kiss Land" for The Weekend, the title song from Abel's debut album on XO/Republic/Universal.
ICM sent Baird the script for his debut feature, the Ne-noir "Zone 414", after the writer, Bryan Edward Hill (Titans, Ash vs Evil Dead),saw the director's cut of "Kiss Land". Baird cast Guy Pearce in the lead and shot the picture in Europe in early 2020, with Matilda Lutz (Revenge) and Travis Fimmel (Vikings, Raised by Wolves) rounding out the cast.
"Zone 414" made its debut on Netflix on New Year's Day 2022 in the US and sat on the Top 10 for three weeks, while Universal Pictures released the picture internationally.
Baird's next project, "One Way", a gritty, modern-day crime thriller, was presented to him by his management team as a follow-up. Baird cast Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly),Kevin Bacon, Storm Reid (Euphoria),Drea De Matteo, and a second collaboration with Travis Fimmel. It was released theatrically in the US on September 2, 2022, and received positive critical attention from top-tier critics, including The New York Times, The Guardian, and LA Times.
Baird's new picture, the contemporary folk horror western "Sunrise", is currently in post-production, starring Alex Pettyfer and featuring a second collaboration with Guy Pearce.
