Person Biography:
Andrea Sawatzki was born in Vaihingen, Germany, to a nurse and a journalist. She lost her father to Alzheimer's and cancer at the age of 13, and she and her mother took turns caring for him. Sawatzki graduated from high school and went on to study at the New Munich Drama School until 1987. She then completed an internship at the Munich Kammerspiele and began her acting career.
Early Career:
Sawatzki's first engagement was at the Stuttgart theater, where she played between 1988 and 1992. She made her film debut in 1988 with a role in "Faust - From Heaven through the World to Hell" directed by Dieter Dorn. She then appeared in numerous episodic roles in TV series.
Breakthrough and Awards:
Sawatzki's breakthrough came in 1997 with her role in the film "The Pharmacist" based on the novel by Ingrid Noll. She received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Alma Siebert. She also appeared in the TV drama "The King of St. Pauli" in 1989 and received the role of Sonja Vogel in the cinema production "Late Show" in 1999.
Crime Scene Chief Inspector:
Sawatzki played the role of crime scene chief inspector Charlotte Singer in 18 productions between 2001 and 2009. She was awarded the Adolf Grimme Prize (2005) and the Hessian Television Prize (2006) for her performance.
Awards and Nominations:
Sawatzki received the German Comedy Prize as Best Actress for her portrayal of Adina Gabriel in the television series "Poor Millionaires" from 2005 to 2006. She also received the Best Actress award at the World Film Festival Montréal for her role in the television film "The Other Boy" from 2007.
