Andrea Portes is a celebrated American novelist, renowned for her captivating works that have captured the hearts of readers worldwide. Her extensive bibliography includes a wide range of novels, such as Hick, Bury This, Anatomy of a Misfit, The Fall of Butterflies, Liberty, Henry & Eva and the Castle on the Cliff, Henry & Eva and the Famous People Ghosts, This is Not a Ghost Story, and the forthcoming Creeping Beauty series, as well as A Terrible Place for Murders.
Born on a farm in Nebraska, outside of Lincoln, Portes grew up in a rural setting that would later influence her writing. She later attended Bryn Mawr College, where she honed her writing skills and prepared herself for a career in literature.
After graduating, Portes relocated to the Echo Park neighborhood in Los Angeles, where she began to build her writing career. Her debut novel, Hick, was an instant bestseller, and its success led to the production of a movie adaptation in 2011, starring Chloƫ Grace Moretz, Alec Baldwin, Eddie Redmayne, Juliette Lewis, and Blake Lively.
Portes' subsequent novels, Bury This and Anatomy of a Misfit, received widespread critical acclaim, with Bury This being hailed as "exquisite" by the New York Times and Anatomy of a Misfit being called "perfection in book form" by Vogue.
In addition to her literary success, Portes has also seen her work adapted for the screen. Her novel Anatomy of a Misfit was optioned in a seven-figure preemptive deal by Paramount Pictures, with Allison Shearmur producing. Her novel Liberty was bought in a three-book deal by HarperCollins and acquired by Twentieth Century Fox - Fox 2000, with producer Wyck Godfrey- Temple Hill.
Portes has also ventured into the world of children's literature, publishing the Henry & Eva gothic middle reader series with HarperCollins. Her Creeping Beauty series is set to be published in the fall of 2021, with HarperCollins once again serving as her publisher.
Upcoming literary fiction novels from Portes include A Terrible Place for Murders and They Were Like Wolves. Her novel Bury This is currently in development with Amber Sealey attached to direct, Matt Miller producing, and Stone River Productions.
