Alexander Hacke was born in the working-class district of Berlin Neukölln. As a young musician, he joined Einstürzende Neubauten in 1980 at the age of 14, alongside playing in various influential underground groups and releasing music under the pseudonym Alexander von Borsig.
Throughout the 1980s and beyond, Hacke collaborated with numerous artists across genres, producing records and scoring music for films, theater, and documentaries. In 1986, he teamed up with the Australian band Crime And The City Solution.
The 1990s saw him record and tour with Italian pop-icon Gianna Naninni, form the alternative country-music outfit Jever Mountain Boys, and produce records for artists such as Miranda Sex Garden, French anarchist songwriter Fred Alpi, and Berlin post-punk characters Mutter.
In 2005, Hacke starred in Fatih Akin's movie "Crossing the Bridge - the sound of Istanbul" and contributed music for the director's award-winning feature "Head On". He has since written scores for numerous films, including "8 Miles High", "Last Cowboy Standing", and "Fuori Dalle Corde / Out Of Bounds", for which he received the award for best music at the 26th Festival International Du Premier Film in Annonay, France.
Hacke has also collaborated with American artist Danielle de Picciotto, with whom he has co-founded the "Ocean Club" and initiated various performances, including "Mountains of Madness", "Bada Bing", "The History of Electricity", and "Hitman's Heel". The couple has released several albums together, including "Perseverantia", "Unity and Joy", and "Menetekel", and has started to fuse their names to hackedepicciotto.
In addition to his music, Hacke has written an autobiography, "KRACH - Verzerrte Erinnerungen", published by Metrolit, and has released three solo albums: "Filmarbeiten", "Sanctuary", and "Doomed".
