Alex Epstein is a dual Canadian and US citizen who spent his formative years in the vibrant city of New York. He graduated from Yale University in 1985 with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and English, earning a prestigious magna cum laude honor.
After completing his education, Epstein pursued his passion for filmmaking at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),where he earned a Master's degree in Fine Arts (MFA).
Epstein's career in the entertainment industry spanned over a decade, during which he worked as a development executive for various independent production companies in Los Angeles. His experiences in development inspired his first book, "Crafty Screenwriting: Writing Movies That Get Made," which was published by Henry Holt in 2002.
In 2004, Epstein relocated to Montreal, where he transitioned to a career as a professional film and television writer. His expertise in screenwriting led to the publication of his second book, "Crafty TV Writing: Thinking Inside the Box," in 2006.
In addition to his literary pursuits, Epstein co-created the comic drama series "Naked Josh" for Showcase and Oxygen, and collaborated on the screenplay for the hit Canadian film "Bon Cop / Bad Cop" in 2006.
In 2011, Epstein shifted his focus to the video game industry, where he took on the role of Narrative Director at Compulsion Games. During his tenure, he oversaw the development of the critically acclaimed games "Contrast" (2013) and "We Happy Few" (2018-2019).
Epstein is married to Lisa Hunter, a talented video game writer and screenwriter, and they reside in Montreal with their daughter.
