Noted writer, musician, and film producer, known for his remarkable talent in perpetrating elaborate and ingenious practical jokes, which earned him the reputation of being one of the country's most skilled pranksters.
After completing four years at Ohio State University, Abel embarked on his first major hoax in 1959, masterminding the infamous "Society for Indecency to Naked Animals". This audacious scheme involved convincing actor Buck Henry to portray the president of the Society and appear on television, passionately advocating for the diapering of farm animals in the name of decency.
Abel's impressive repertoire of hoaxes also included collaborating with his wife Jeanne to campaign for a nude postage stamp featuring Jane Fonda, fabricating the fictional "Sex Olympics", and deceiving the press into believing that General Idi Amin was secretly getting married in a lavish wedding at New York's Plaza Hotel.
Throughout his career, Abel and his wife consistently managed to deceive the public and the press, leaving many bewildered and amused by their cunning and creative pranks.
