Ahmed Ramzy, a renowned Egyptian actor, was born in the vibrant city of Alexandria in 1930. He went on to play leading roles in numerous Egyptian films throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Born to Ramzy Mahmud Bayumi, a prominent Egyptian orthopedist, and Helen MacKay, a Scottish lady, Ahmed's early life was marked by tragedy when his father lost a substantial fortune in the stock market in 1939, leaving his mother to raise him alone.
Ahmed's educational journey took him to Victoria College, where he befriended the illustrious Omar Sharif. Initially, he attended Medical school for three years before transferring to the Faculty of Commerce, ultimately deciding to pursue his passion for acting. His older brother, Dr. Hassan Bayoumi, followed in their father's footsteps, establishing his own practice in London.
Ahmed's personal life was marked by three marriages, resulting in three children, two daughters, and a son. His acting career took off when he was discovered by producer Helmy Halim in 1955, landing his first role in the film "Ayyamna al-Holwa" (Our Best Days) alongside Faten Hamama, Abdel Halim Hafez, and Omar Sharif. The film's success catapulted Ahmed to stardom, and he went on to participate in numerous movies, earning a reputation for his portrayal of the charming playboy and womanizer.
Throughout his illustrious career, Ahmed collaborated with some of Egypt's most notable actors and actresses, including Omar Sharif, Faten Hamama, Rushdi Abaza, and Saleh Selim. Some of his most notable films include "Our Best Days," "Dark Waters," "Hamidu's Son," "Girls of Today," and "Adrift on the Nile."
Ahmed's remarkable career spanned several decades, with his last appearance being in the TV series "Hanan Wa Haneen" alongside Omar Sharif in 2007. Tragically, Ahmed passed away on September 28th, 2012, at the age of 82, due to a severe brain clot, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable performances and a lasting impact on the Egyptian film industry.
