Adesua Etomi-Wellington made her big screen acting debut on April 14, 2014 with the release of Knocking On Heaven's Door in Nigerian cinemas. Her performance as Debbie announced her as one to watch, and she went on to deliver stellar performances in Brave and Gidi Up Season 2, proving her acting chops.
She joined the cast of MTV's HIV/AIDS edutainment series Shuga 4 as Sheila in August 2015, and in October 2015, she was unveiled as a cast member of the Crime and Investigative drama series Special Crimes Unit: Las Gidi Cops, which debuted in February 2016.
On the big screen, Adesua Etomi delivered another emotionally gripping performance as Muna in the feature film Falling, released theatrically in September 2015, earning her the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Best Actress In A Drama Award.
Her 2015 cinema run was followed by nationwide releases for A Soldier's Story in October 2015, Inkblot's Out Of Luck in December 4, 2015, and Couple Of Days in February 2016, which currently holds the Nigerian box office record for the most tickets sold in one day (February 14, 2016).
Adesua Etomi has primary training in theatre, straddling the screen and stage worlds expertly. Her foray into theatre began in 2004 with The Crucible, while she studied for Diplomas in Performing Arts, Musical & Physical Theatre at The City College in Coventry, United Kingdom. She starred in three plays for the Arena Theatre in 2008 & 2009, and bagged a First Class Honors' degree and a Foursight Theatre Award for the Best Performance in A Devised Piece Of Work upon completion of her studies in 2009.
After a three-year hiatus, Adesua Etomi returned to the stage in 2012 with The Miller's Tale, which showed at the Saga Tiata-Edinburg Fringe Festival. In 2013, she made a trip back to Lagos, Nigeria to visit family and met a vibrant film and theatre scene which she decided to venture into. This led to several appearances in stage plays all over Nigeria.
Later that year, Adesua landed the lead role in her first movie - Knocking On Heaven's Door, produced by Emem Isong. She would again team up with Emem Isong in a big budget period piece, tentatively titled "Ayamma - Music In The Forest", which is primed for a late 2016 theatrical release.
Adesua Etomi was born in Owerri, South Eastern Nigeria to a Soldier father and Civil Engineer mother. She is the youngest of three children and quickly learned to express herself through performance. Her first encounter with acting was at the age of 7, when she joined the drama club at her primary school, Corona School Victoria Island. She moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 13. Her hobbies include singing, dancing, playing the guitar, and swimming.
