Abner Pastoll, a British film director and screenwriter, hails from London. Born on February 12, 1982, in Johannesburg, South Africa, his early life was deeply intertwined with the world of cinema. His family operated a two-screen cinema in Rustenburg, where he spent a significant portion of his childhood.
At the tender age of 2, Abner and his parents relocated to London, where he would spend the remainder of his formative years. Despite this significant change, Abner maintained a strong connection to his family's cinema, frequently returning to Rustenburg for at least a month each year until the cinema's eventual closure in 1999.
Abner's passion for filmmaking began at an astonishingly young age of 4, largely influenced by his family's cinema and his father's extensive collection of film and video equipment. Initially, he had aspirations to become an actor, but he soon discovered that his true calling lay behind the camera.
Abner's debut feature, Road Games (2015),is a testament to his creative vision and skill. This UK-France co-production, brought to life by February Films in London and Superbe Films in Paris, was released in limited US cinemas on March 4, 2016, and later in the UK and Ireland on August 26, 2016, courtesy of Icon Film Distribution.
The film's digital premiere on US Netflix on July 12, 2016, was met with immense success, as it swiftly rose to the top of the streaming service's most popular and most-watched films, holding the #1 spot for an impressive three consecutive days.
