Abdolreza Kahani is a renowned Iranian director, boasting a Master of Art in theatre from the University of Tehran. His illustrious career commenced at the tender age of thirteen, when he began crafting experimental short films and documentaries. His debut feature film, "Dance with the Moon", premiered in 2004, marking the beginning of a prolific output of eight feature films in his native Iran.
However, Kahani's creative endeavors were not without challenges. Due to censorship laws, some of his films were banned from public screening, forcing him to re-evaluate his situation. In 2015, he made the difficult decision to leave Iran and relocate to France, seeking a more welcoming environment for his work.
Despite the Iranian regime's apparent animosity towards Kahani's films, his cinematic endeavors enjoyed widespread success, both domestically and internationally, garnering numerous awards from esteemed film festivals such as Karlovy Vary and Thessaloniki.
In the aftermath of his departure from Iran, Kahani has continued to actively pursue his passion for filmmaking, working in various countries including Thailand, France, and Canada. Today, he proudly identifies as a nomad director, eschewing traditional notions of belonging to a single place or country. Instead, he finds inspiration in the diverse cultures and landscapes of the world, and remains committed to exploring the globe through the lens of cinema.
