Aaron Brookner is a multifaceted creative force, with a diverse range of skills that span directing, writing, and producing. Based in London, he has made a significant impact in the film industry, with his latest film, Uncle Howard, receiving widespread critical acclaim.
Uncle Howard, a documentary, was nominated for a British Independent Film Award, selected as a New York Times Critics Pick, and named one of the 10 Best Documentaries of the Year by the Hollywood Reporter. It also won the Best Documentary award at the Dias de Cine festival in Spain. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in the U.S. and had its international premiere at the Berlinale. It went on to be showcased at numerous prominent film festivals around the world, including San Sebastian, the New York Film Festival, Bafici, Outfest, and over 70 others.
In addition to his work as a director, Brookner is also a producer, and he has produced the remastered version of Burroughs: The Movie, a film directed by his uncle Howard Brookner. The remastered version was released theatrically by Janus Films and on Blu-ray and DVD by the prestigious Criterion Collection. The film was presented at the 2014 New York Film Festival, accompanied by a panel discussion featuring Jim Jarmusch, Tom DiCillo, Aaron Brookner, and James Grauerholz, the manager of William S. Burroughs' Estate.
Prior to Uncle Howard, Brookner wrote and directed The Silver Goat, the first feature film created exclusively for iPad, which was released as an app in 2012. The film was downloaded in 24 territories and became a top 50 entertainment app in the UK. His short documentary, The Black Cowboys, won the Audience Award at the Rochester International Film Festival in 2004.
Brookner has also collaborated with other creatives, co-writing and producing Listen, the first English-Portuguese co-production, directed by Ana Rocha de Sousa. Listen was the most awarded film at the Venice Film Festival in 2020, taking home two Lions and four independent awards.
Currently, Brookner is a co-director of Pinball London, where he is developing films and series as a producer, writer, and director.
