A normal boy, Tom, is pulled into a magical world against his will when his eccentric grandmother, the guardian of a phoenix egg, is killed and disappears in a ghost cart. Tom must learn ancient magic from an unlikely mentor, a tiger named Mr. Hu, and join a team of shape-shifting creatures representing the Chinese zodiac to protect the egg.
