Tessa, a single mother, embarks on a journey across America with her daughters Kate and Laura to introduce them to their new stepmother, Carolyn, a model and Michael's new wife. Despite initial reservations, Tessa's goal is to prepare her daughters to accept Carolyn as a mother figure before her own impending death from cancer.
