A former Irish prisoner, Dowd, flees to New York City, where he leads a solitary life as a dishwasher. After a good deed lands him in the hospital, he finds refuge with a Guatemalan couple, Tulio and Monica, who share his rebellious spirit. When they plan a political assassination, Dowd offers to help, driven by his growing attraction to Monica. But the police are closing in on him, and he must balance completing the hit, protecting his new friends, and escaping with Monica.
