Shame background

Shame

A peaceful rural island farm is shattered when a couple's tranquil existence as skilled violinists is torn apart by the chaos of a civil war, testing the fragile bond of their marriage.

Two musicians, apolitical and living a simple life on a rural island, struggle with personal issues amidst the backdrop of civil war. Jan's emotional sensitivity and Eva's desire for children create tension in their relationship. When the war reaches their doorstep, they're arrested as collaborators and subjected to physical abuse. After their release, a local colonel begins to visit them, sparking suspicion and fear. As chaos erupts, Jan's behavior becomes increasingly violent, and the couple must navigate their way to safety and a new future.
