Jesse, a charming and romantic individual, struggles to commit to marriage despite knowing how to pop the question. After his breakup with Hannah and the sudden death of a former fiancée, he sets out to understand what went wrong in his past relationships. He visits each of the women he was serious about, including his teenage flame, a group of lesbians, and the ghost of his deceased ex, Anabeth. With the help of a level-headed insomniac named Laura, Jesse even manages to reconcile with one of his angry exes.
