A geologist discovers oil on neighboring ranches and partners with Ace, who orchestrates a reign of terror to force the ranchers to sell out. However, Ace's plan to eliminate Red Ryder involves hiring the San Antonio Kid, who suffers a freak accident and is rescued by Red. Later, the Kid discovers that Red is the target he was hired to kill.
