In 17th century France, a Catholic official arrives at a convent to perform an exorcism on a nun believed to be possessed by demons. The nun's supposed possession is linked to a local priest who was burned at the stake for his alleged role in corrupting the nuns, particularly the Mother Superior. A young priest is sent to assist with the exorcism and initially meets with the Mother Superior, who is seemingly possessed by Satan and begs for salvation.
