The story follows Tapan Das, a manager of India's gold-winning hockey team during British rule, who dreams of bringing home the gold medal after the country gains independence. As India approaches independence, Tapan learns about the 1948 Olympics and decides to assemble his own team to compete. However, the team is soon divided, along with the country, during the tumultuous period of partition.
